Venture North: Award Winning Cultural Tours from Darwin

Posted on 23 March, 2022 in Arnhem Land, Culture, Darwin, Tours, Rock Art

On Friday the 18th of March 2022 the Australian Tourism Awards were held on the Sunshine Coast. Each year this gala event sees tourism businesses from all states and territories converge to recognise excellence in Australian tourism. It really is the night of nights for the tourism industry with all the best tour operators and industry leaders in the one room, networking and celebrating their achievements.

This year we were honoured to represent the Northern Territory in the category of Cultural Tourism after previously winning the award at the 2021 NT Tourism Brolga Awards (qualifying us for the National Award). It was an extremely strong field of National Finalists, including:

.

Venture North Safaris (NT)Fremantle Prison (WA)
The Royal Australian Mint (ACT)The Cedars, Hahndorf (SA)
Geelong Gallery (VIC)The Henry Jones Art Hotel (TAS)
Fun Over Fifty Holidays (QLD)Hello Koala Sculpture Beach Trail (NSW)
The Cultural Award specifically recognises 'tourism operations that foster a greater understanding and appreciation of authentic culture, history, heritage and/or the arts

We we lucky enough to receive the Silver Award on the night, with Freemantle Prison taking out the Gold and the Royal Australian Mint the Bronze. A strong contributing factor to receiving this award was our strong relationships with local Indigenous people. As it is in partnership with local Indigenous guides we are able to take guests to places that are not open to the general public and offer some of the most authentic cultural experiences in the country.

Other NT winners on the night included Katherine Outback Experience & the Darwin Convention Centre, both taking out the Gold award (in the category of Tourist Attraction & Business Events Venue). While Uluru Camel Tours also took out Bronze in the Tour & Transport Operator category.

If you'd like to see what one of our most popular cultural experiences looks like please see the video below (it's our feature tour; the 5 Day Kakadu, Arnhem Land & Cobourg Peninsula Tour).
