On Friday the 6th of March 2020 the Australian Tourism Awards were held at the National Convention Centre in Canberra. Each year this gala event sees tourism businesses from all states and territories converge to recognise excellence in Australian tourism. It really is the night of nights for the tourism industry with all the best tour operators and industry leaders in the one room, networking and celebrating their achievements.

This year Venture North was honoured to represent the NT in the category of Cultural Tourism after winning the award of the same name at the 2019 NT Tourism Awards (qualifying them for the National Award). It was an extremely strong field of National Finalists in Canberra, making it even more thrilling as our name was announced as the winner of the Cultural Tourism category!

The Cultural Award specifically recognises 'tourism operations that foster a greater understanding and appreciation of authentic culture, history, heritage and/or the arts'. Due to Venture North's strong relationships with the local Indigenous people we are able to offer our guests some of the most authentic cultural experiences in the country. In partnership with local Aboriginal guides we take guests to places that are not open to the general public and offer an array of immersive one-on-one cultural activities. We also operate a remote tourist camp within the Aboriginal lands of Arnhem Land.

After accepting the award Venture North owner's Hugh & Aaron Gange were stopped for a quick chat in the media section, take a look below.

In addition to the Cultural Award there were another 25 categories of tourism awards announced on the night and a full list of National recipients can be found here. We would also like to congratulate our friends at Nitmiluk Tours in Katherine, the other NT operator to have a win on the night, picking up 3 major awards, including 2 for their luxury accommodation & restaurant at Cicada Lodge as well as the Aboriginal and Torres Straight Tourism Award.
