May officially starts the 'dry season' in the Top End. The temperatures are cooler, and the humidity drops. Rain becomes less frequent, and rivers start to recede. Warm days and cool evenings bring misty mornings on lily-covered billabongs. This time of year is known as "Yekke." For the local Binnij/Mungguy people, it's not the calendar but mother nature that dictates this change of season.
